What Tengri Auto reported
On 29 September, Tengri Auto reported comments by Yerlan Buzurbayev, head of the working group that drafted Almaty’s ambient air protection rules. He proposed considering a citywide LEZ after the pilot.
He linked the proposal to Almaty’s position in a foothill basin: air pollution is not confined to particular streets or districts, so a small zone may have only limited environmental effect.
The pilot zone currently operates until the end of 2026 in central Almaty: south of Bogenbai Batyr Street, north of Abai Avenue, east of Zheltoksan Street and west of Dostyk Avenue. During the pilot, entry is not restricted and no entry fee or fine applies.
No new boundaries have been approved. Buzurbayev said the pilot should first be completed successfully and the system checked for clear emissions limits, consistent testing rules, enough operators, information systems and automated administration.
The report itself does not introduce immediate changes for drivers. The current boundaries and rules remain in place until an official decision is adopted; LEZ.kz will report separately on any approved documents and updated map.
