When testing is needed

The city explains that from 1 September 2026 the new procedure applies when the next scheduled roadworthiness inspection is due. Early environmental testing is not required.

For a roadworthiness document issued before that date, the guidance says it remains valid until its stated expiry.

What the test determines

Exhaust toxicity is measured for petrol and gas-powered vehicles; smoke opacity for diesels. The official explanation identifies ST RK 1433-2023 as the relevant standard.
