What is the Almaty Low Emission Zone?

Why the zone exists

The LEZ aims to reduce urban air pollution from transport, limit its impact on residents’ health and encourage the use of lower-emission vehicles.

A LEZ sign alone does not describe every access condition. The current project stage, official requirements and their effective dates all matter.

Technical examination and zone admission

From 8 January 2027, entry to the LEZ is permitted only with a positive technical examination result confirming compliance with emissions limits. Vehicles without confirmed compliance will be subject to restrictions on operation within the zone.
